Obeticholic Acid 5mg Tablet

Obeticholic acid 5mg tablet belongs to the class of medications called farnesoid X receptor agonists. It is widely use in the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) a type of liver disease that destroys bile ducts, which allows bile to stay in the liver and cause damage. Obeticholic acid tablet is used alone or in combination therapy with ursodiol to prevent or delay liver damage by decreasing the production of bile in the liver and thus, inhibits bile acid synthesis. This reduces the bile acid pool in the liver and hence prevents its toxic effects. Therefore, it helps to improve liver function.

Obeticholicacid is also currently being considered for FDA approval to treat fibrosis caused by non-alcoholic liver steatohepatitis (NASH)
